Caceres to Plasencia Map
The well-marked Camino runs through the heart of Extremadura all the way to Carcaboso. This is where we observe the most changes in the landscape, day after day. At the beginning, there is very little shade along the Silver Way but as the landscape becomes more undulating, woodland starts to appear. This is a welcome sight for most pilgrims!

Highlights

Caceres

When in Caceres you can to walk through the Old Town of Caceres and see its beautiful historical buildings with their impressing details. It is filled with old religious symbols and amazing churches. One of the many really impressing places in this town is the Star Archway (Arco de la Estrella) especially in summer with beautiful flowers all around.

Canaveral

For a break or a nice evening, the Bar Bodeguilla La Campana is a good place to go.

Galisteo

Galisteo is a beautiful walled town with fronts from the 13th century. If you take a walk around the ramparts you get a good view over the town and its surrounding area.

Itinerary

Day 1

CACERES (Arrival)

Caceres still holds its old mediaeval town and walls, as if nothing has changed since then! It is a charming town and enjoyable to stroll around. To add to the relaxing atmosphere of the city, Caceres is also famous for being the home of numerous stork colonies!

Day 2
10.85km

CACERES
to
CASAR DE CACERES

Leaving Caceres, we spend the first few kilometres walking along a main road, with flat crop fields on both sides of the road but no shelter from the sun. Fortunately, this is a short walking day so you will have all afternoon to relax at your hotel in Casar de Caceres!

Day 3
32.5km

CASAR DE CACERES
to
CANAVERAL

Soon after Casar de Caceres, we find ourselves walking along wide dirt tracks, through a flat landscape with endless skies and views. Along the Camino, we will also come across many ‘miliarios’, stone posts remaining from the old Roman road, which the Via de la Plata follows.

Day 4
28.94km

CANAVERAL
to
GALISTEO

Today can be seen as challenging as this is a long walk and there is also a steep climb a few kilometres after leaving Canaveral. However, this is a very enjoyable walk as we spend most of the day walking through both woods and farmland, offering a diversity of scenery not always seen on the Via de la Plata route.

Day 5
12.82km

GALISTEO
to
PLASENCIA

We leave Galisteo by crossing the town’s beautiful 14th Century bridge. It is then an easy stroll to Carcaboso, through a greener landscape than the rest of the region, thanks to several canals cutting through the area. Once you arrive in Carcaboso, we will arrange a short transfer to your hotel in the nearby town of Plasencia.

Day 6

PLASENCIA

After breakfast, we bid you farewell. This small town has plenty to offer should you want to stay the day, including the impressive Plasencia Cathedral. Besides its architecture, the building also offers amazing paintings and a museum located inside the cathedral.
