Many say the best way to enjoy the authentic Portugal is through flavour. Our guide will steer you through Lisbon’s traditional eateries and offer tips on the city’s food and drink scene.
Starting off our tour, we head to one of Lisbon’s great cafés, Café Nicola, to learn about Portugal’s café culture. Opened in 1787, it is a famous tertúlia (a café for literary gatherings). Next, you will experience a true Portuguese dish – Pastel de Bacalhau (cod fish cake). Paired with a glass of Vinho Verde, get to know about the historic centre of Lisbon.
Then, we visit a gourmet shop in the heart of the city. Learn about how classic Portuguese sausages and cured meats are made, and try Port, Portugal’s fortified wine, with delicious São Jorge cheese. We now go to one of the most famous tascas (a type of casual eatery) in Lisbon, where you ́ll taste a Bifana (hot pork sandwich) washed down with a cold beer.
Ginjinha, considered the defining drink of Lisbon, is our next culinary journey – and you get to try it at the first place that sold it in 1840! After, a stroll up one of Lisbon’s many hills offers fantastic while your guide will explain what food to try and what restaurants to visit in each of the neighbourhoods. We finished the tour in style at a local venue offering Chouriço (smoked sausage), bread and other local products served with a glass of delicious red wine.
